A compilation of stuff I know about drawing Asian faces and Asian culture! I feel like manyĀ ā€œHow-To-Drawā€ tutorials often default to European faces and are not really helpful when drawing people of other races. So I thought Iā€™d put this together in case anyone is interested! Feel free to share this guide and shoot me questions if you have any! Iā€™m by no means an expert, I just know a few things from drawing experience and from my own cultural background.Ā

Tuesday Tips – Floating Hands

I use this a lot when storyboarding a first pass of a sequence. Placing hands in the right, most appealing position can be tricky. In order to create a clear silhouette for the hands, I often draw themĀ ā€œfloating in the airā€. Then, using my general knowledge of anatomy, I justĀ ā€œfill in the armsā€. This way I can create a much more expressive and clear pose than if I was just radiating out of the torso. Thatā€™s when structure and anatomy can get in the way of a clear message. And hands carry a lot of meaning, so I want to make them as clear as possible Ā for my audience to see them.
I would say the same applies to life drawing. Since they often donā€™t carry the body weight (legs most often do), I feel like i can take the freedom of changing their position slightly to make a better visual statement.

Yay! Iā€™m not the only one doing that!Ā

Hi everyone!Ā

First of all, I just wanted to thank yā€™all for all the love on theĀ last tutorial I postedĀ -Iā€™m glad people found it worthy of sharing and reading. I wanted to make this one more in-depth. I donā€™t think I would call this a ā€œtutorialā€ to achieve something specific, but a look into the thought process that goes on regarding environments, storytelling and execution. Hopefully you can relate it to your own thought processes you currently have.

Have a good one, guys! If you got questions, do ask ā€˜em.Ā :)

(Also. I know Iā€™ve been quiet in posting new art lately. A lot of the art I canā€™t show yet but there is cool stuff on the way.)Ā

Iā€™ve been asked a lot about how I draw hoods, mostly Talonā€™s hood, so I hope this helps a little? Just a pretty basic thing but hey there ya go

Hoods are pretty cool, they usually have a lot of variety in how they can look (and sometimes people even wear two hoods at once) so just get creative with it and have fun
