so like okay,Â
I donât know why Iâve been obsessively thinking about the concept of âgaydarâÂ
but I have.Â
Actually no itâs because a straight family member used the term likeÂ
âoh I have really great gaydarâÂ
and it made me feel really grossÂ
and it took me like a full hour to realize why.Â
When heterosexual people say that,Â
it feels like theyâre bragging about their ability to clock us, you know?Â
like a straight person is telling me that they can spot us queers at 50 pacesÂ
and iâm immediately going to be uncomfortable with that,Â
whereas when other queer folks talk about being able to spot each otherÂ
itâs a tool for survival.Â
Like hereâs the thing right?Â
being able to tell is important sometimes.
ÂHereâs an example:Â
A couple summers ago I was in a very very small town in Nova Scotia, CanadaÂ
(like 6 buildings small)Â
and I met a woman in the library who was probably a little older than my actual mother.Â
She was there most days using the wifiÂ
because she lived across the street in an apartment without internet.Â
We sat at the same table a few times and spoke briefly about life in passingÂ
and after a few of these not-talking-about-gay-stuff convos I was pretty sure she was a part of the lgbtq communityÂ
and I slipped in a casual pronoun re: an exÂ
and she just looked at me,Â
stopped completelyÂ
and said âoh thank fuck, I thought so.âÂ
and instantly started talking about her girlfriend,Â
it was like this huge wave of relief washed over both of usÂ
because we were in a small rural town and both hovering in this really queer space and unable to talk about it.Â
Anyway she was really rad and took me to the closest big town to buy me a tim hortons coffeeÂ
because she found it reprehensible that I had been in canada for more than 3 weeks already and hadnât ever had it.Â
Almost instantly it was likeÂ
âoh okay we have this thing in common that other people may not be cool withÂ
but we can actually exist and not hide shit without the fear of violence or angerâ
but when itâs a straight person
theyâre pretty much just letting you know that they can spot the fact that you seem âabnormalâ to themÂ
like greatÂ
thanks for letting me know.Â

Weâre identifying brethren while theyâre identifying outsiders. Itâs that simple.

BECAUSE THAT SHIT IS BUNNYâS TOUR THROUGH THE SILVER MILLENNIUM
Run by Bunny, AKA Gina Biggs, AKA the cartoonist behind Red String, co-founder of Filthy Figments, and all-around cool person. :D
Lemme just say
The Germans in Wonder Woman are not Nazis.
I just saw a troubling comment on a gifset of Antiope and her badass three-arrow stunt shot at the three german soldiers on the beach. I love that moment as much as anyone. However, this comment referred to her âkilling Nazisâ. And those men were not Nazis.Â
Wonder Woman is set in WW1. Hitler would not come to power for over a decade after WW1 ended. Fascism had not yet become a political force in Europe. In fact, Germanyâs treatment as a defeated aggressor instead of as an equal party in the armistice negotiations – and later the Treaty of Versailles – despite the Alliesâ equal culpability for the war, directly contributed to the rise of fascism and nationalism in Germany.
Stop calling the German soldiers in Wonder Woman Nazis. One of the greatest tragedies of WW1 is that the soldiers on both sides of the trenches were hungry, young, sick, poor men, who had no stake in the war. This article talks about the experiences (at least early in the war) of both sides on the Western front meeting on no manâs land and finding little difference between one another.Â
Thereâs a lot to love about Wonder Woman, and I very much enjoyed it. I also loved the points in the movie when the violence done by Americans and British – such as when Diana speaks to Chief about the death of his people – were addressed as well, but they were brief. The presentation of Germans As The Bad Guys – especially since Ariesâ influence was inconsistent as a plot point – has led to people mistakenly reading it as a movie about Nazis, when the Nazis did not exist in 1918. A WW1 setting does not sustain a narrative of one side being âheroicâ and the other âvillainousâ, especially if one takes into account the atrocities both sides had committed during the quarter century leading up to the armistice. It troubles me that this movie allows WW1 German soldiers to be read as Nazis.Â
Please stop referring to Nazis in the context of Wonder Woman.
^ THIS THANK U
This is important
I think this lends to an underlying point that Aries was trying to cause chaos on all sides apparently including the audience
As Steve points out in the movie, World War I isnothing like World War II⊠the whole thing was just a big messâŠthere was no one country that was on the ârightâ side, just callous people in power all over the world sending kids off to get massacred and not caring about the damage it was doing and the lives it was destroying
Itâs worth noting that Steveâs side isnât really shown to be any more âRightâ or heroic than the Germans areâŠwhile Ludendorf and Dr Poison are cetrainly villains as well, when we meet them the people in charge on Steveâs side theyâre a bunch of clueless, cruel, self important, sexist old men who donât care about the troops on their own side which is pretty much 100% accurate to what World War I was likeâŠthe people giving the orders back then were all basically General Melchett from Blackadder Goes Fourth except even less rationalâŠhell the only person who showed ANY compassion among those in power on Steveâs side turns out to be the GOD OF WAR and only be doing it to further his own evil plansÂ
Diana doesnât side with any country in the conflict eitherâŠshe works with Steve and the team he puts together because theyâre good people not because theyâre not GermanâŠ
What I also found fascinating is that the God of War is literally the dude who put together the armistice.  The one that lead directly (with a combination of other factors) to the rise of Hitler and Nazism. He outright tells Diana in the climax that the armistice has been put together to deliberately provoke continuous war in an attempt to get humanity to destroy itself, which ⊠if you factor in the Cold War and the US battles against communism and foreign terrorism, is basically what we got.Â
The villain in Wonder Woman isnât the Germans, Diana only assumes that Aries is posing as a German because her entry into the war is through Steve, an American soldier working with the British. The villain is really very literally war itself, and with the framing device we see very clearly that this is a battle that will never end.Â

Weâve bought a new house. And our new next door neighbours (two delightful gentlemen) will not stop being nice.Â
– bought us a seagull proof refuse bag (yes, they are actual things)
– loaned us garden tools when we didnât have any
– invited us around for Friday night drinks so we could meet the other people on the lane
– one of them brought me a bunch of sweetpea flowers that heâd picked from his garden
– and tomorrow heâs coming to cut our hedge for us with his electric hedge trimmer thing idk, and all I have to do is hold the ladder.
Basically, I am UNSETTLED and am now having to enter into an arms race of niceness and I am already so behind oh god.
Long story short – I just baked a lemon drizzle cake, and it looks great but I canât even eat it because MR AND MR NICE MUST RECEIVE AN OFFERING.
ABSOLUTE CRISIS I GAVE THEM THE LEMON DRIZZLE AND THEN THEY INVITED ME IN TO HAVE A SLICE AND A COFFEE WITH THEM AND GAVE ME A TOUR OF THEIR HOUSE AND LET ME HOLD THEIR PUPPY. AND THEN THEY CAME AROUND TO HELP ME BAG UP THE HEDGE CLIPPINGS. THESE MEN ARE NICENESS PROS AND I CANNOT WIN.
HELP WE HAD AN HOUR LONG POWER CUT ON THE STREET AND IN THAT TIME THE OTHER MR NICE CAME AROUND WITH MATCHES AND CANDLESÂ âJUST IN CASE YOU DIDNâT HAVE ANYâ. IT WAS BARELY DARK.
BASTARDS – IâM GOING TO HAVE TO HOST A DINNER PARTY ARENâT I?
The Gay Agenda, everyone.Â
this is fucking i n c r e d i b l e

DO USIANS AND CANADIANS NOT HAVE A CONCEPT OF âTHE FORTNIGHTâ?????????????????????????????
I just⊠canât deal with this information.
nope. I looked it up in a dictionary when I bought blurâs parklife in middle school
Nickâs new job is going to pay him weekly and heâs having trouble understanding why, because fortnightly pay is pretty much the norm in Australia.
We do, kind of, since our paycheck periods are often a fortnight, 14 days. We just donât usually use that term, and just say âin two weeksâ or whatever.
Looking for information: Snumple is missing
This is very much not the post I wanted to be writing, but this is the point weâre at.
Several days ago, I was contacted by Snumpleâs brother, Vladimir. Snumple â Xenia â had been missing for over 48 hours, and he was looking for any information on where she might be. I didnât have any ideas, but through our conversation, he seemed to gain a larger picture of the sort of emotional state sheâd been in lately.
Which, unfortunately, was not good. As you all know, she deleted her Tumblr a few weeks ago. It was an action that I found extremely worrying, particularly given Xeniaâs increasing depression, but she was set on it. Still, after deleting it, her mood seemed to improve and I hoped things were getting better for her. Then emails sent to her began to bounce, saying the account had been deactivated.
The timing coincides with when she went missing. âWorryingâ no longer seems sufficient.
Xeniaâs been missing now since the morning of 16 May (itâs the 20th as of this writing), making it over four days since anyone last saw or heard from her. She left her phone and her passport at home. Her family and volunteers have been searching the city and surrounding woods, but have so far not found anything.
I know she was friends with many of you. If you have any ideas or information about where she may have gone, anything she might have mentioned or hinted at, please let me know so I can pass the information to her brother. And if by chance youâre in the area of St. Petersburg in Russia and might be willing to volunteer to help search, let me know that as well so I can find out where to direct you.
This situation is absolutely heartbreaking. I love Snumps very much. I hold out hope for the best, but even if the worst, she needs to be found so her family can know peace.
