Dilettante 007: Navigating Artists’ Alley
Steve Lieber returns with sound advice on the ettiquette involved in visiting Artists’ Alley or any convention.
Great advice that applies to pretty much every convention. :)
This really applies to everyone you pass by when doing this, but really. Filming my artwork or taking pictures up close as you browse or walk by WITHOUT ASKING FIRST is a really shitty thing to do and it happened repeatedly over the weekend. I started speaking up after like the second person. Ask permission before you film or take pictures of things on an artist’s table. (And respect their wishes if they say no or tell you to stop.) We work really fucking hard and it’s incredibly rude.
Some photos of my TrotCon table! We’ve rearranged since these were taken, since both our neighbors decided to leave early, so we’re going to expand into the empty space a bit for the last day tomorrow. XD
I picked up my new banner from the print shop today! IT’S SO COLORFUL. This is going on the front of my table at cons from now on.
Next big purchase will be a retractable pop-up banner for behind the table, but I’ve got to save up for it. :)
Hey everyone, I’m going to be in the artist alley at Youmacon this weekend! I’m trying something new at this convention, and I’m going to be pushing my on-site commissions more than usual. I’ll be drawing on this 5.5 x 8.5 inch color cardstock with ink, pencils, and colored pencils.
Black and White will be $15.
Color will be $25.
I drew up these four samples to get me started! Wish me luck, come say hello if you’ll be there. :D

InterventionCon 2012: Color Ponies
by *
6 of the 7 color pony commissions I did at Intervention 2012. I sadly forgot to take a picture of the last one, as it was right before the artist alley was about to close and I had to start packing up my table.

So I guess drawing on my badge (when there’s room) is my thing now.
If only every con was Ohayocon.
Strike that; if only every con was Matsuricon.
So, a question to my east coast friends, and anyone else who’s been to Baltimore Comic Con. An Artist Alley table is $200. I’ve never been to BCC before.
I gotten one testimonial that it’s a hardcore old-school comics crowd, but I’ve also got many friends that go who haven’t responded to my queries yet. Is it worth it for the webcomickers?
