I like how the first episode ends, and there’s no subsequent scenes of exposition or explanation in the following episodes why Rosemary and Laura are partnered up in gardening and life, it’s just like PLOP. They’re contractors now. On to the next murder mystery.
HBO’s Insecure has mastered the cinematographic art of properly lighting black faces. Diversity matters!
This colour theory reminds me of some of what @euclase has written about their painting techniques!
Wow this is great. I’ve struggled A LOT with unraveling how black actors are photographed on film, and Ava Berkofsky lays it out so well.
I’m floored by the furniture thing, though. I shouldn’t be, because of course, but I am.
Ooh! Saw and shared this on Facebook the other day, so I’ll just copy n paste what I said:
1) This is an important and FUCKING PERSISTENT problem that happens in film/TV/photography that one should be aware of. 2) This is a great starting point for thinking about how to color/render brown skin tones in art. Brown skin, especially as it gets darker, relies much more on reflections and highlights to define form than pale skin, which (at least in my work) teds to lean on shadows/shading. Break outta that comfort zone.
in superman adventures #19, there’s a villain named multi-face who can convincingly disguise himself as anyone, even tricking dna tests and x-ray vision. Superman initially can’t stop him
and the only reason he gets caught is because multiface decides to disguise himself as, of all people, CLARK KENT i’m screaming
why do villains always mess up so badly
