People say that there’s no way a character can be openly homosexual in a cartoon because no one/the people in charge wouldn’t approve. Because if so, then what did Braceface do that was different?

This does seem like a good example! Unfortunately, I’ve never even heard of the show until now, and I’ve lived in several different countries and never seen it on TV.  So I looked it up on WIkipedia:
Braceface is a Canadian animated series that aired on Teletoon in Canada, and on Disney Channel and ABC Family in the United States. It is produced byAmerican actress Alicia Silverstone, and made by the Canadian company Nelvana.
Waaaaaaaait. NELVANA? The same company that dubbed Sailor Moon and made Haruka and Michiru “cousins,” and couldn’t even touch the final season “Sailor Stars” because they couldn’t handle all the gender bending?
Hmm. That’s unexpected.
As best I can recall (and quickly double-checked on Wikipedia) Nelvana was never involved in the North American SM adaptation. It was DiC Entertainment for the first two seasons, then Cloverway for 3 and 4.

This reminds me of a story I heard from an Australian artist whose work I’ve followed for many years. Apparently she visited America and went to Outback Steakhouse for dinner. There was an appetizer named “Kookaburra Wings”, presumably some fancied-up chicken wings.
But she was so appalled that she threatened to go back to Australia and start a chain of American restaurants and put “Bald Eagle Wings” on the menu to see how we liked it.
