I am having a ball going through @crystalgeocities (who is doing THE LORD’S WORK) and it’s bringing back all sorts of memories from the years when I was first exploring the internet. I want to draw your attention to:

Web rings and cliques, you guys. They were a thing, and they were a thing that ended up leading me to some of my oldest internet/fandom friendships.

Through webrings and such, I found the world of online charm clubs– which I feel, outside of the friends *I* have who remember/took part in them, NO ONE REMEMBERS. I would love to be contradicted, so get in my asks if you remember these.

A charm club was, basically, a forum with an extra collecting component. It was mostly social, to meet people and chat about this or that. You’d have basically an avatar that represented you– your charm– and you would collect the charms of others in the club by sending them a trade request. Then you’d save a copy of their charm, and then add it to a charm cabinet or page or whatever, usually hosted on Geocities, and hand-coded in HTML in Notepad.

I think I found charm clubs through Sailor Orion’s Refuge, because the creator, Meghann, was part of a few, and eventually started her own, based on otaku senshi. The Senshi Exchange Club.

Our charms were little sprites of our otaku characters– in the style of the sprites from the SNES game, Sailor Moon: Another Story. I’m Facebook friends with a number of the people I met through the SEC, and I’ve met some of them in person! We’re all now adults and in our 30s, so it’s been awesome to reconnect as we cross paths out in meatspace.

So I got hit with the LJ nostalgia hammer this evening, which is closely related to the SEC nostalgia club.  Did some internet archaeology and maybe followed a few old members on Twitter and Tumblr. So if you’re one of those, checking out who this rando is, hi.  I’m Sailor Mew.

Toying with the idea of taking my old Sailor Moon extended fanfic idea and turning it into a webcomic to both practice drawing (because holy crap I need it) and get the story out there. I’m rereading my old brainstorming sessions and really liking what I came up with.

One page done on the prologue so far. I think I’m going to wait until I have the whole thing done and then queue it up before I start posting.

We must all resurrect our magical girl ficworlds for this new era and IT WILL BE GLORIOUS.

Been itching to get back into art lately, so I decided to start small with a sprite edit. meglish and alexheberling I think are the only followers of mine who will know who she is, but this is Sailor Andromeda, my otaku senshi I created back when I was, what, fourteen? For the Senshi Exchange Club. Back in the day when cute graphic adoptables were a huge thing, it was a club based on online forums where we could all trade “dolls” of our senshi. BACK IN THE GOOD OLD DAYS OF FANDOM. *waves cane*

Even though I created her half my life ago (…I’m old), I still really like the story I came up with for her and her teammates, so much so that I will occasionally revisit it. I think the last time ended up being so ambitious that I talked myself out of it before I began. Whoops?

OH OH OH OH! She’s so cute and this makes me SO HAPPY! I was totally in love with your characters, I do hope you revisit them again! :D

Resurrect Sailor Moon Fanseries 2k15, let’s GO!

How about some Throwback Thursday?

This piece was not done by me, but from an old friend (Sailor Harmony) in the Senshi Exchange Club. Alex inspired me to dig through the depths of my junk drive last week when she posted her video artlapse of Sailor Mew (who is in the bottom right corner, I believe!)

This is a group of many of the girls from the SEC, a good twelve or thirteen years ago. My avatar, Uncia, is up there on the top row, third from the left, and she really hasn’t changed too much since!

Who else is here? (Alex, help me out!) I think the top goes Kairos, Hearth, Uncia, and the bottom has Silver Dragon, Star, someone and Mew, but I’m struggling with the rest.

Any tumblrs who were old-school Moonies may know, and if you’re an old SEC-er say hi!

I believe top row on the right is Sailor Eclipse?

Middle Row: Not sure about the others, but second from the left is Crystaline, I think.  (I’m now looking through the folder of dolls I scrounged up the other night.)

Bottom row: Second from the right is possibly Shadow.
