Have you ever wanted to have dinner with LeVar Burton? Or maybe try on his Star Trek visor? Also wanna help kids all over the world read and learn cool things? WELL NOW YOU CAN!

LeVar Burton— my dad— has started a new kickstarter (click the link) to fund his awesome Reading Rainbow app. The prizes are really cool and involve people like Patrick Stewart and Laurence Fishburne!

If you can donate 5 dollars, please do. If you can afford more, you rock. If you can’t, please signal boost to do your part!

We’re counting on you, Tubmlr— the community of nerds and awesome people.

This is way better than my approach to improve literacy.

Go fund this! And even if you don’t/can’t, reblog to get the word out!

Y’all need to watch the video. For srs.

Girls deserve media devoted to them.

JUST TO THEM.

All girls.

Girls of colour, disabled girls, girls who deal with mental illness, who deal with abuse, those were were designated male at birth, girls who are belittled simply for being girls every day of their lives through deliberate means and casual misogyny.

They deserve representation.

Girls deserve media just for them, that is well written and produced and made with love and care. Winx admittedly lacks these qualities from time to time, but it has a great foundation and it’s good to be analytical and critical of what you love.

So screw the boys, they have enough.

Super Art Fight has a big show coming up, this weekend!
There’s also the YouTube promos we’ll be posting all week.
Oh, and the poster illustration is courtesy of joehunterart.

Were there any major differences between the first drafts of Blue Sky and the final one we got to read? I’m sort of curious how it might have changed from your initial idea into this beautiful monstrosity with its own fan following.

waffleguppies:

Darling anon, I never work in drafts. I shape and polish every word as I go along, so that there’s never a sloppy first or second draft, and if you think my method has the slightest negative impact on the finished work, you are clearly interpreting the text from the wrong ang-

Oh, wait, wrong glorified fanfic writer.

Not really, is kind of the answer! I wrote most of it in a sort of long first draft that meandered along to around chapter 13 more or less the same length and with essentially the same details as the finished one, and I left the last couple of chapters in really dodgy, skeleton format because by that point the plot had gotten away from me. Then I went over it chapter by chapter, tweaking and rewriting, and by the time I’d got back to the last parts (posting as I went along) I understood just about enough of what needed to happen to write the ending. This is a very scary way of writing, because while you guys were so excited to find out how it was going to end TO BE HONEST SO WAS I, but it worked, just about, that time around. I think I only had to delay one chapter because it wasn’t finished on time.

I really wish I could tell an interesting story about how Blue Sky was originally a coffee-shop AU set in space, but I would be lying my arse off.

Tricon In West Virginia!

gailsimone:

I will be here, May 31st, in Hungtington, WV…my first time to this state. I am excited!

Who else is going? There are some cool guests I am looking forward to meeting!

I am thinking of making a couple of the script printouts just for this con, but only a couple as it’s a one day event and I prefer to sell out than store them for another event.

So if you are coming, and you are interested in having a script of mine for purchase (I print ONLY fifteen of each script, when they sell out, they will not be reprinted, and they are signed and numbered), this is a good spot to ask for a particular series. I have Bop, Sonja, Tomb Raider, Atom, Batgirl, Tranquility, and many, many more.  Just drop a note for what series you are most interested in and I will give it consideration. I am not yet taking any reservations for the scripts but may closer to the date.

Every time I have done this they have sold out immediately so if you’d like one, let me know what series and I will alert everyone when I have chosen.

SEE YOU THERE!

I’m super excited! My booth is right around the corner from you. :D

It’s think it’s actually kinda cool that Beryl brings up Jadeite again. Like we’ve talked about a few times, Jadeite is unique among the Shitennou in that he’s the only one isolated without appearances from the others. It may be after the fact, but I like the continuity of bringing him up. He wasn’t ever a presence with anyone else directly, but little reminders like this help to enforce that all of his stuff didn’t happen in a vacuum.

Though I again wonder where everybody else was while he was failing repeatedly.

#JW rewatches Sailor Moon #smclassic #sm ep 19 #more though the return on ‘eternal sleep’ #and not for the first time i’m thinking that jadeite could very well still be out there somewhere #did i get into this once? #with jadeite and the stragglers and remnants of the dark kingdom out in the world? #because suddenly i’m really feeling that as a very delightful revenge story #or i may just be too sick to filter out what’s good and what’s bad #note to self: reconsider when you are not about to pass out #dark kingtom #queen beryl #jadeite tag #shitennou

Re: the revenge story in the tags, BABBY NERD ALEX STORY TIME.

The first SM fanfiction I ever read back in like 1998-9 was about this very premise.  Jadeite escaped from the giant crystal carbonite block and came after the girls, who were in their 20s at that point, for revenge. :)

ETA: FOUND IT!  It was called “Reunions” and was written by Weapon X.  There’s an archived copy here.
