So have you heard of LoliRock…? It’s a new French cartoon that just started airing recently. I know Magical Girl series have a tendency to get compared to Sailor Moon no matter what kind of show they are, but the SM influences in this show are palpable. The final shots in their transformations where their lipstick glides on and they open their eyes? It SCREAMS “Outers”. Plot-wise it feels like a cross between Sailor Moon (inter-galactic princesses) and Mermaid Melody (singing superpowers), with a lot of aesthetic influence from Pretty Cure. (Surprisingly, despite the premise, I don’t really get any Aikatsu! vibes.) And look who just made a cameo in today’s new ep!
The main characters were searching for their princess (whom they found… it’s the pink one.) and formed a singing trio, so… I wanted to draw them like this, haha!
I wasn’t sure what I was expecting the show to be like, but it’s actually very charming and the characters are lovely. You can watch the first episode subtitled here!
