Ray Frenden reviews the too-cheap-to-be-true Monoprice graphics tablets. How do they stack up to industry standard Wacoms?

After spending a week with the 6.25“x10” Monoprice, my Yiynova and Cintiq remain unplugged and I gave my Intuos away to a friend. The Monoprice tracks subtle pressure variances and small movements with less lag and more crisp fidelity than any of the others. It is, put crudely, fucking awesome, in both OSX Lion and Windows 7 x64.

I have one of these, 10×6.5 I bought about two months ago for 48 bucks. It’s a billion times better than my old Wacom Bamboo and works like a fuckin dream.

ATTENTION ALL PENNY-PINCHING ART FRIENDS!!!

ooo reblogging this for potential future purchase

oh

OH MY GOD THIS POST SHOWED UP AT THE PERFECT TIME THANK YOU

I have one of these! They’re wonderful.

For the people who ask me what kind of tablet they should start out with: This looks like a nice affordable option!

I’m really glad these tablets are so affordable, AND WORK!  My Bamboo has held up like iron in 5 years of heavy use, and it’s still going strong, but I’ll probably look at one of the larger-size Monoprice tables when I’m ready to upgrade.

Tea storage – I need to paint this old wooden curio shelf. It’s super old, not my aesthetic. But USEFUL.

This is super pretty! I wish my tea storage looked half as neat.

A weird thing I find incredibly helpful for art/writing.

Eplans.com is a website that sells blueprints for houses.

This might not seem that helpful but if you want a characters house you can make selections based on what sort of house you want them to live in.

Then browse through the results and find the house you want. Then you can view the blueprints and have a room layout for that house, which can help with visualising the space they live in.

It makes describing generic homes so much easier.

Oooooh, that’s awesome! I was actually thinking about that a few days ago, how it would be splendid to have a website do the work and plan houses for you. I’m no decorator and need these references.

Thanks :)

I have some basic architecture programs that I use to design houses from scratch but this might be even better (what with me not being an actual architect). But I will say having a floor plan to work from ABSOLUTELY improves art and writing when it comes to detailing the scenery.

This will be VERY useful to me, as the first chapter of the Hues takes place almost entirely within Sami’s house…
