“It’s too much out there. I don’t even know how to explain it. It just smashes up all of these senses. I’m not strong enough to deal with it all my own.” – Rae on My Mad Fat Diary

I woke up one morning last weekend to see my laptop screen was open to the Wikipedia page for My Mad Fat Diary. I imagine some time, late the night before, I read something about the show and decided to do more investigating. In reality, I have no memory of what prompted my curiosity. I take it as a good sign. What matters most is that I have seen the show and loved the show. For WBEZ, I wrote a review and essay about the show and why it’s one of the best depictions of young womanhood and mental illness ever.

“My instincts said that you see yourself as a fragile thing. Like a little broken bird sloshing around in a bottle. But if you trust me, if we trust each other… then you’ll be alright. Because basically, I think you’re a pretty tough cookie.”

Just finished watching this last night.  So good.
