When I have a kickback with the Besties.
Maleficent and Hades are totally snarky BFFs and no one will convince me otherwise.

First things first. For those of you who swear by the pink dress, yes, there’s a version for you as well:
…Aaaaand moving on. So Prince Philip does specifically and emphatically say “this is the 14th century!” at some point during the film, but Philip’s an idiot (a handsome, handsome idiot) and I, never afraid to ignore source material, ignored him.
Oddly enough Philip’s clothing is a better point of reference than Aurora’s (since the hourglass, off-the-shoulder cut of her dress is straight out of the 1950’s), and there are far more examples of his get-up from the 1460’s onward than in the 14th century. I went with my gut and ended up with something around 1485- a little later than one might expect, but it’s such a (beautifully) stylized film that all bets are off.
EDIT: OH ALSO HER EYES ARE OPEN. Â WHOA.
This whole series is awesome. Click through to her DA and check out the rest of the princesses!

Eyvind Earle concept art for Walt Disney’s “Sleeping Beauty” (1959)
Worshipping this!
We had a set of Disney books in my first school where all the illustrations were like these. I remember taking them home and doing a zillion drawings based on them, when I was wee.

My submission for Love Your Body Day 2011. Amanda of Love Your Body Detroit sent me a silver piggy bank, and I transformed it into Hyacinth, the fat ballet-dancing hippo from Disney’s 1940 film, Fantasia!
I was a little distraught that I had to give her away, but I’m so happy with how she turned out, and I have ideas on how I could have improved it, so I may make another one.
Her snout and cheeks were sculpted right onto the piggy with Sculpey, baked, and then she was primed and painted with acrylics. Her little back feet have a coat of gold glitter nail polish for the ballet slippers, just because. Then I sprayed her with an aerosol satin sealing spray, and hot-glued on her tutu material with gold glitter hot-glue. The material is actually a Disney-branded trim, too!
