This is such a stupid joke but damnit it made me laugh

Dis me

I work in airport security, and we use walk-through metal detectors. Last summer there was this big huge metal music fest in town, and in the days that followed there were loads of metalheads passing through my terminal.

Now our metal detectors sometimes go beep even though they don’t detect any metal, because random searches are a thing (and at least here they really ARE random). So this group of metalheads are passing through, and the detector beeps at one of them and tells me it’s a random selection.

So I search the guy, and one of his fellow metalheads ask what the detector beeped at him for. And I usually don’t think of fun things to say until five hours later, but this time –

“He’s more metal than you.”

Common Myths About Bisexuality from the lovely Webcomic “Jesus Loves Lesbians, Too” by bi blogger & author Maria Burnham (writer/memoirist) and Maggie Siegel-Berele (comic artist).

I usually don’t reblog stuff like this because this is my art blog but this hit close to home and reminded me of so many conversations that made me feel like garbage.

It always makes me see red when I see lesbians (and gay men) treating bisexuals this way. I don’t think I can even type too much more without quickly reaching a point where I just smash my head into the keyboard.

[Image: A side-by-side comparison of a comic panel lettered digital by hand vs. lettered with a font.]

I’m trying to make this comic as thoroughly mine as I can.

I’ve been interested in doing my own lettering for The Hues, as opposed to using the font tool, which I did for Garanos.  As a parenthetical, I hand letter Alex’s Guide, but that’s mostly because it’s all natural media, apart from the coloring.  I’ve never properly “learned” lettering in the classical sense, and a majority of searching for a tutorial led to hand lettering with pen and paper.

However, this three part series on Making Comics was really helpful getting me started in digital hand lettering!  Above are my results, compared to the same panel lettered with the type tool and my old technique for making word balloons.  On the left, the balloons are drawn with vectors, and on the right, they’re drawn freehand with the lasso tool.

I may look back at these letters in a year and cringe at how they look, but I’m really happy with how it changes the page, especially with the nicer word bubbles.

I wore my Birthday Bash dress to Penguicon last month, so it’s been featured in several of my comics about the convention.  There’s an official OOTD in the works– I’ve got it inked, I just need to apply the colors, but here’s a preview!

Also, if you want to follow my comic on Tumblr, you can!
