This Gender-Swapped āBlurred Linesā Video Is Freaking Awesome
- TW: Partial Nudity, Explicit Lyrics, Sexual Content
Seattle boylesque troupe Mod Carousel createdĀ their own versionĀ of Robin Thickeās controversial (and catchy) single āBlurred Lines"āthey changed the lyrics, rerecorded the vocals, and restagedĀ the videoĀ with all of the genders swapped. The result is pretty amazing. And I love their explanation of the philosophy behind the project:
Itās our opinion that most attempts to show female objectification in the media by swapping the genders serve more to ridicule the male body than to highlight the extent to which women get objectified and does everyone a disservice. We made this video specifically to show a spectrum of sexuality as well as present both women and men in a positive light, one where objectifying men is more than alright and where women can be strong and sexy without negative repercussions.
Not only is virtually every person in this video very attractive, but it serves as a very important social commentary especially when one considers the extremely questionable intent behind the original song & video.
I hate the original song so much, Ā I ever get poisoned Iāll play it to help me throw up.
