one time i downloaded a MIDI of the Friends theme song off of someone’s Angelfire page

I tried to illegally download an MP3 of Simple and Clean but my mom picked up the phone and disconnected our internet.

I made an anime fansite on one of my pet’s pages on neopets.com and every single asset and art on it was direct linked/stolen from other websites because i didnt know how to upload images to the internet myself

I owned and used a .zip drive

I made an anime fan page on Angelfire that just had a bunch of gifs I found for things I liked INCLUDING those ancient ass gifs of a) Pikachu running, b) Pikachu balancing on a Pokeball, c) odd dancing Raichu, and a bunch of Rurouni Kenshin screenshots.

The background was set to black, but had that falling cherry blossoms gif over it.

The font was gold colored and it was COMIC SANS.

i made a fanfiction shrine that was up for two days before getting taken over by middle eastern hackers

the first time i ever used internet explorer i used it to go to the nintendo power website in order to get the toll free number to call nintendo and ask them how to get the raiden magicite in ff3. (otherwise known as ff6)

I downloaded MP3s from AOL chatroom mp3 bots. Also cgshrines was my original danbooru. (IT’S STILL AROUND, AMAZINGLY)

I used to watch a music video of one of my fave low-key boy bands (No Authority, what up?) on their interactive CD in the Mac Lab after school.

I once made a Kingdom Hearts AMV set to Good Charlotte’s “Lifestyles Of The Rich And Famous” on Windows Movie Maker and uploaded it to Kazaa.

I had a Gorillaz fanpage that had a built in chat feature that I used to talk to my friends while in computer class because other messaging clients were disabled.  I was found out pretty quickly.

I actually printed out the neopets permission form for my parents to sign and then physically mailed it to them bc scanning and emailing it was beyond the realm of my ability

The AOL Parental controls on my account wouldn’t let me access half the Sailor Moon fansites I wanted to visit, so my parents let me borrow theirs sometimes so I could freely browse them.

I made an As Told by Ginger fansite on Geocities.

I bought and paid for a second phone line at my parents’ so I could go online safetly. I also got a domain name for a couple years, pointing to my GeoCities page that had a black background, rainbow text, and animated GIFS.

My first internet search was on my neighbors’ computer, with AOL, and I searched for Hanson.

Fun fact- that “Moon Cycle” was one of the only remains of what we ALMOST got for an English “adaptation” of Sailor Moon instead of the dub- they were going to use new vehicles for the Sailor Senshi (called the “Princess Warriors/Fighters” in this version) and that was going to be one of them. It’s not in this video, but here’s what almost happened in the US.

Linked video:

This is like the child of the MST3K opening and The Babysitter’s Club if it was given up for adoption and raised by Too Many Cooks and a series of bootleg “Planetary Marine Girl” toys. This is the most delightfully alienating premise I have ever seen. It’s just confusing to every possible demographic. The constant laughter of bemusement that underlies the generic pop song speaks for itself. What a thing.

I do appreciate that one of them is in a wheelchair, though. And that they are actual literal moon sailors.

every time I see this, (and I manage to forget it exists most of the time and when I’m reminded I feel that dizzying momentary relief you feel when you catch yourself before falling down the stairs – that ‘somewhere in an alternate universe I broke both my legs and also this is what aired in the US instead of the DiC dub of the Toei anime jfc’), but anyway every time I see this, I think of how angry Toei (and Naoko, I believe) was with the way DiC and Cloverway handled the dub that they wouldn’t license Sailor Moon to a North American company for over a decade and how they would have reacted to this travesty. Like, there might have even been an actual war or at least an international incident like idek.

The year is 2023. It has now been thirty years since Japan closed its borders to North America. It was a time before restraining orders against an entire continent based on perversion of cultural content was unheard of, and yet it became so normalized it seems odd. We keep circulating the illegal tapes of Captain Harlock and Space Battleship Yamato, our last remaining link those we severed ties with years ago. Maybe our children will never know what it was like before the Wrath of Moon unleashed its rage upon us, for we were the sinners.

So I got hit with the LJ nostalgia hammer this evening, which is closely related to the SEC nostalgia club.  Did some internet archaeology and maybe followed a few old members on Twitter and Tumblr. So if you’re one of those, checking out who this rando is, hi.  I’m Sailor Mew.

Been itching to get back into art lately, so I decided to start small with a sprite edit. meglish and alexheberling I think are the only followers of mine who will know who she is, but this is Sailor Andromeda, my otaku senshi I created back when I was, what, fourteen? For the Senshi Exchange Club. Back in the day when cute graphic adoptables were a huge thing, it was a club based on online forums where we could all trade “dolls” of our senshi. BACK IN THE GOOD OLD DAYS OF FANDOM. *waves cane*

Even though I created her half my life ago (
I’m old), I still really like the story I came up with for her and her teammates, so much so that I will occasionally revisit it. I think the last time ended up being so ambitious that I talked myself out of it before I began. Whoops?

OH OH OH OH! She’s so cute and this makes me SO HAPPY! I was totally in love with your characters, I do hope you revisit them again! :D

Resurrect Sailor Moon Fanseries 2k15, let’s GO!

EEEE, thank you, bb! :D I keep thinking about it. I might just have to do a short series to satisfy the itch.

AND THEN THE CROSSOVER WITH UNCIA AND COMPANY Y/Y

EEEEEE, I always loved your senshi team’s fuku design. :D
