imagine you saw an alien spacecraft and your first reaction was to critique its flat color palette and unimaginative lines
gonna be real, this would be me

i know its a stingray but it looks like cthulhu popped his head up to say hi
I thought it was a giant squid.
holy shit they get this big?
They do get this big! They also tame relatively easily and are surprisingly docile animals. Its popular to swim with them in many beachy areas. As long as youāre not stupid and mean to them, your odds of being hurt by them are very low.
I had the opportunity to swim with a school of them on a sandbar once and I must say they are very aggreeable animals, though they do have the tendency to mob you if you have food, and they can be quite heavy. Still very pleasant animals.
ha cthulhu
Humans will pet anything. If aliens come, that might be what distinguishes us from the rest of the galaxy.
āwe were going to blow them up, but they engaged in an oddly pleasing patting ritual and, well, it was nice.ā
PSA
I’ve been collecting Optimistic First Contact scenarios recently (WONDER WHY) and this one just delights me.
This is the dumbest thing to nitpick but the phrase āreal UFOā bothers me any UFO is a real UFO as long as itās unidentified and flying because thatās what those words mean weather or not itās an alien is a different matter it could be a pancake someone threw real hard as long as you donāt know thatās what it is itās a UFO
iāve said it before, and iāll say it again: anything is a UFO if youāre bad enough at identifying stuff
A counterproposal: in order to be a fake UFO, something can fail to be an object, or fail to be flying.
So the batsignal, improperly identified, could be a fake UFO, because although it appears in the sky and might be mistaken for a UFO, it is neither a physical object nor in any meaningful sense flying. Various light projections, optical illusions, and meteorological phenomena might fall into this category.
Additionally, seen from a distance or in poor lighting/visibility conditions, some sort of bulbous sculpture on a very tall thin support might also appear to be a UFO, and fulfill both theĀ āunidentifiedā andĀ āobjectā criteria, without flying, and therefore qualify as aĀ āfake UFOā.
this may be the most pedantic thing Iāve ever written in my lifeĀ
and we love you for it
But if it was made by real aliens, then THEY obviously know what it is.
So, if it is an actual alien spaceship, then it is not unidentified, and is therefore not a real UFO.
Paging @tryinghuman
@introducingemy, have you heard of this book?
I found this book at a free book swap today. @introducingemy, do you have this one already?
‘I am so mad at you right now.’
Oooh I think this is relevant to @introducingemy’s interests.
ID4 appreciation post!
Spent the afternoon screencapping the ships for inspiration. <3
