i go to the university of memphis, and walking home from my class this evening, i saw these signs. i’m sure there’s more all over campus but these are the ones i saw. it really hurt my heart reading them. because i know i’ve had major self esteem issues in my life, and i’m sure most of you have too. we’ve all been there and we all know how it feels. the one that really got my attention was the one about how girl’s self esteem peaks at age 9. and i thought ā€˜that can’t be accurate…’ but then i thought about it, and i’ve felt self conscience about my body/face as little as second grade. that’s about 8/9 years old. i just hate this. everyone deserves to feel beautiful. no matter what gender, weight, height, hair color, skin color, OR ANYTHING. we’re all people, we all have feelings, and we’re all beautiful.

COMBOS!!!

I found these once at a petrol station. They were the best thing I ever put in my face and then I could never find them again.

These are my favorite salty junk food, right down to the flavor. (Cheddar cheese cracker is also good.)Ā  They’re everywhere in the states.

A photo of my boyfriend and I from a Halloween party last Saturday!Ā  I found this adorable purple kimono dress on clearance for something ridiculous like six dollars.Ā  I layered a black skirt underneath it since it was a bit short and jersey can ride up like a mofo sometimes. ^_^Ā  I’m also wearing my definatalie Fat Necklace!

I think I’m looking really cute.Ā  Thanks, Fat Acceptance!

Why are carrots orange? It is political

No, the image above does not some show some collection of freshly genetically designed hypercarrots in various colors of the rainbow. This is the spectrum of colors carrots used to have – and in some regions of the world you can still find white, yellow, red and purple carrots. In most countries however, carrots tend to be orange nowadays. Why is that?

They’re orange for entirely political reasons: in the 17th century, Dutch growers cultivated orange carrots as a tribute to William of Orange – who led the the struggle for Dutch independence – and the color stuck. A thousand years of yellow, white and purple carrot history, was wiped out in a generation.

Although some scholars doubt if orange carrots even existed prior to the 16th century, they now form the basis of most commercial cultivators around the world. Presumably crosses between Eastern (purple), Western (white, red) and perhaps wild carrots led to the formation of the orange rooted carrot sub species. Turkey is often cited as the original birthplace of the hybrids (or mutations) of the two groups.

Whatever the origins, the Long Orange Dutch carrot, first described in writing in 1721, is the forebear of the orange Horn carrot varieties so abundant nowadays. The Horn Carrot derives from the Netherlands town of Hoorn in the neighborhood of which it was presumably bred. All our modern, western carrots ultimately descend from these varieties. Hypernature avant la lettre.

file under: things i didn’t give a shit about until just now.

Huh! This explains why I saw a ā€œpurple carrotā€ snack at an Asian store once. I thought it had to be a mis-translation for taro, or maybe purple yams. Ā The idea of purple carrots really intrigued me… AND IT TURNS OUT THEY’RE REAL. O_O

My roommates grew carrots in their garden this summer, and the carrot crop was about half orange, half purple.Ā  Though others may insist they taste the same, I am convinced that the purple ones taste… purplier.

The cross-section of the purple carrots I ate revealed that the color was only in the outer layers of the root flesh.Ā  The inside/core was orange as well. :D

Adventure Time fans might disagree over a lot of things, but EVERYONE loves LSP.

I’ve been meaning to practice drawing more women of size, and this was the perfect excuse.

P.S. If you are planning to make rude comments regarding her weight please go lump yourself.

SHE LOOKS PERFECT. Adorable!

Dammit, I’ve been trying to avoid watching Adventure Time (due to “Alex Has No Time!”) but with watching the Sugarless Gum adventures from afar, and now this, I might crack under the pressure. o_o;
