We always make it for New Years, too! My sister always requests it for her birthday, and if there’s a family get together, my mom will make a ridiculous quantity to share with the relatives, so we get to enjoy it at least a few times a year.

This weekend, for instance, some of my mom’s cousins are having a reunion, so we brought the roaster full of kraut, to thunderous approval all around.

The German Family recipe pork and sauerkraut. Legend has it, this recipe came over on the boat when the Germans immigrated from… we’re not totally sure. Germany? Maybe. Austria? Maybe. Poland??? COULD BE. The family changed the surname to German at immigration. To eat it is to know true love in your goddamn mouth.
