So have you heard of LoliRockā€¦? Itā€™s a new French cartoon that just started airing recently. I know Magical Girl series have a tendency to get compared to Sailor Moon no matter what kind of show they are, but the SM influences in this show are palpable. The final shots in their transformations where their lipstick glides on and they open their eyes? It SCREAMS ā€œOutersā€.Ā  Plot-wise it feels like a cross between Sailor Moon (inter-galactic princesses) and Mermaid Melody (singing superpowers), with a lot of aesthetic influence from Pretty Cure. (Surprisingly, despite the premise, I donā€™t really get any Aikatsu! vibes.) And look who just made a cameo in todayā€™s new ep!

The main characters were searching for their princess (whom they foundā€¦ itā€™s the pink one.) and formed a singing trio, soā€¦ I wanted to draw them like this, haha!

I wasnā€™t sure what I was expecting the show to be like, but itā€™s actually very charming and the characters are lovely. You can watch the first episode subtitled here!

I just finished the first ep and it’s super cute!

Have you been watching the redub of the original Sailor Moon on Hulu? What do you think of new voices? =3

I have!Ā  I’m really loving pretty much everyone so far.Ā  Stephanie Sheh’s Usagi really grew on me, and all the villans so far have been 100% on point.Ā  I’m a fan of Patrick Seitz (Kunzite) anyway, and I just love him so much adfhjskhfjk.

The only voice I’m not really feeling is actually Ami.Ā  Her voice is, pitch-wise, very similar to Usagi’s, and her delivery is lacking something that I can’t quite articulate, so she’s falling kind of flat for me.Ā  I look forward to the second half of the season, so I hope she changes my mind. :B

Overally, having lived through the 90s dub, it’s REALLY WEIRD to finally hear these characters speaking English again, but NOT hearing “Serena, Molly, Melvin,” etc., in the dialogue.
