Were there any major differences between the first drafts of Blue Sky and the final one we got to read? I’m sort of curious how it might have changed from your initial idea into this beautiful monstrosity with its own fan following.

waffleguppies:

Darling anon, I never work in drafts. I shape and polish every word as I go along, so that there’s never a sloppy first or second draft, and if you think my method has the slightest negative impact on the finished work, you are clearly interpreting the text from the wrong ang-

Oh, wait, wrong glorified fanfic writer.

Not really, is kind of the answer! I wrote most of it in a sort of long first draft that meandered along to around chapter 13 more or less the same length and with essentially the same details as the finished one, and I left the last couple of chapters in really dodgy, skeleton format because by that point the plot had gotten away from me. Then I went over it chapter by chapter, tweaking and rewriting, and by the time I’d got back to the last parts (posting as I went along) I understood just about enough of what needed to happen to write the ending. This is a very scary way of writing, because while you guys were so excited to find out how it was going to end TO BE HONEST SO WAS I, but it worked, just about, that time around. I think I only had to delay one chapter because it wasn’t finished on time.

I really wish I could tell an interesting story about how Blue Sky was originally a coffee-shop AU set in space, but I would be lying my arse off.

Where do you get your button making supplies, if I may ask? Also, is that a hand-held press in that picture? I’ve wanted to try button making but the standing presses are so expensive! Thanks!

My machine is the Badge-a-Minit hand press, which I got for $100 about… 6 years ago?  I got the starter kit that came with 100 sets of button parts, which were my practice buttons while I learned how the machine worked.  I buy button parts in bulk from ButtonSafari on eBay, since they are much cheaper than BAM’s button parts.

I wrote up a whole button guide on my blog a few years ago, so go read that for more information.

A hand press is good for getting your feet wet, but a table-top unit with a lever will save your hands from dying.  I’ve been at the point where I should probably upgrade to a lever machine for the last couple years, but I’ve been putting it off and putting it off.

The nice thing about buttons is that whatever kind of machine you buy, it will eventually pay for itself in buttons sold.

Mother’s Day dinner OOTD. Anytime we go out with my boyfriend’s parents, it involves restaurants and food WAYYY above my pay grade. So I get to dress fancier.

I bought this dress like three or four years ago and I’ve worn it once. It’s kind of a Better Have Perfect Posture dress, since the neckline is a bit low and my bra will see the light if I slouch too much. XD

Tricon In West Virginia!

gailsimone:

I will be here, May 31st, in Hungtington, WV…my first time to this state. I am excited!

Who else is going? There are some cool guests I am looking forward to meeting!

I am thinking of making a couple of the script printouts just for this con, but only a couple as it’s a one day event and I prefer to sell out than store them for another event.

So if you are coming, and you are interested in having a script of mine for purchase (I print ONLY fifteen of each script, when they sell out, they will not be reprinted, and they are signed and numbered), this is a good spot to ask for a particular series. I have Bop, Sonja, Tomb Raider, Atom, Batgirl, Tranquility, and many, many more.  Just drop a note for what series you are most interested in and I will give it consideration. I am not yet taking any reservations for the scripts but may closer to the date.

Every time I have done this they have sold out immediately so if you’d like one, let me know what series and I will alert everyone when I have chosen.

SEE YOU THERE!

I’m super excited! My booth is right around the corner from you. :D
