I donât. Iâm pretty sure I was out by that point. It was a surprise to me to learn that it HAD been dubbed. When I was involved, theyâd never even finished R.
Oh god, when Toonami announced that âTHE LOST EPISODESâ were coming from Japan to the US to finish off RâŠ. I still donât understand why they stopped.  It wasnât even at a logical place in the narrative.  I think just after Prisma and Avery were redeemed?  It was just one day the dubbing team fucked off or something RIGHT BEFORE THE CLIMAX OF THIS NARRATIVE ARC.  So fucking weird.
My vague recollections of the news S and SuperS were being dubbed – abject horror. Â We all collectively knew Haruka and Michiru werenât going to be in lesbians with each other, which was some bullshit, and then we found out it was fucking COUSINS. Â I think everyoneâs brain collectively broke.
Then Serena 3.0 opened her mouth and we all knew the true horror that had been wrought upon us.
There was a lot of excitement and horror. Lots of âfinally!â right alongside âthis is going to be awful.â Lots of people really wanted to see every season dubbed, and what we heard sounded like the exact things many had been demanding for a long timeâfewer cuts, retaining the original music. I had long moved past the dub by that point, so I didnât feel like it affected me much other than interest in how it would be handled.
I remember, I didnât have the right TV channels to watch it at the time, so I (and a lot of people) closely followed updates from those who did on Sailor Moon forums. In my mind, it went something like this.
“Okay, Michelle and Amara have been introduced. Theyâre strangely silent on their relationship with each other. Maybe theyâll just not say anything at all and leave it to the audience to figure out?”
“Nothing this episode. This is looking promising.”
“SOMEBODY JUST SAID COUSINS. OH GOD THEY SAID IT AGAIN. THEYâRE SAYING COUSINS EVERY OTHER LINE JUST TO MAKE SURE WE HEARD IT. WHAT IS HAPPENING.”

I remember freaking collectively out on grep Sailormoon* when Hotaru first showed up and her name hadnât been changed.
Edit: OH and to answer commas-and-ampersands, I think the reason they stopped halfway through R is because theyâd only licensed 65 episodes, as per practices in TV syndication or something like that.
