Do you remember what was the fandom’s reaction to S and SuperS FINALLY being dubbed?

I don’t. I’m pretty sure I was out by that point. It was a surprise to me to learn that it HAD been dubbed. When I was involved, they’d never even finished R.

Oh god, when Toonami announced that ‘THE LOST EPISODES’ were coming from Japan to the US to finish off R
. I still don’t understand why they stopped.  It wasn’t even at a logical place in the narrative.  I think just after Prisma and Avery were redeemed?  It was just one day the dubbing team fucked off or something RIGHT BEFORE THE CLIMAX OF THIS NARRATIVE ARC.  So fucking weird.

My vague recollections of the news S and SuperS were being dubbed – abject horror.  We all collectively knew Haruka and Michiru weren’t going to be in lesbians with each other, which was some bullshit, and then we found out it was fucking COUSINS.  I think everyone’s brain collectively broke.

Then Serena 3.0 opened her mouth and we all knew the true horror that had been wrought upon us.

There was a lot of excitement and horror. Lots of “finally!” right alongside “this is going to be awful.” Lots of people really wanted to see every season dubbed, and what we heard sounded like the exact things many had been demanding for a long time—fewer cuts, retaining the original music. I had long moved past the dub by that point, so I didn’t feel like it affected me much other than interest in how it would be handled.

I remember, I didn’t have the right TV channels to watch it at the time, so I (and a lot of people) closely followed updates from those who did on Sailor Moon forums. In my mind, it went something like this.

“Okay, Michelle and Amara have been introduced. They’re strangely silent on their relationship with each other. Maybe they’ll just not say anything at all and leave it to the audience to figure out?”

“Nothing this episode. This is looking promising.”

“SOMEBODY JUST SAID COUSINS. OH GOD THEY SAID IT AGAIN. THEY’RE SAYING COUSINS EVERY OTHER LINE JUST TO MAKE SURE WE HEARD IT. WHAT IS HAPPENING.”

V

I remember freaking collectively out on grep Sailormoon* when Hotaru first showed up and her name hadn’t been changed.

Edit: OH and to answer commas-and-ampersands, I think the reason they stopped halfway through R is because they’d only licensed 65 episodes, as per practices in TV syndication or something like that.

Summer Sketch Card by alex-heberling

I love drawing Summer’s floaty, multi-tiered layer cake gown. In my mind, thinking of a real-life cosplay version, it’d be a v-neck sheath underdress in a shiny golden fabric with the tiers made of sheer, lighter gold gossamer or something. And the train/cape, hinted at on her shoulders here, would be in the same fabric, but all one piece without the tiers. The whole thing would be very swishy and floaty.

Support SarahCate creating Illustrations
.
My patreon page is up and live! For my current followers/submitters:
-I will never require, demand, or expect you to support this project financially. PSA illustrations are now and always will be FREE.
-Nothing about the way PSA works has changed fundamentally
-You submit, I illustrate, I post the final piece
-If you submit with a “do not reblog” request, your piece will not be uploaded to patreon. It will only ever appear on the PSA tumblr blog
.
Patreon allows interested persons to sponsor my work. They pledge a certain amount of their choosing for each illustration I create and upload to my patreon page. They choose the amount to donate per piece, and the cap on their total amount to donate per month (in case I get especially prolific).

It allows me to continue this project for free, while giving me a way to try and earn a living
more specifically, to earn money for my severely past due medical bills.

In time, if it works out, and once my medical bills are caught up- I’d like to be able to use Patreon to fund the goal of publishing a book of PSA illustrations.

But for now
it creates a way for me to try and regain some financial independence using the only craft I can still really DO. And it offers the opportunity to raise awareness of this project as well- and we all know how important visibility IS, for all of us.

I don’t expect anyone to sign up as a patron. But if you can share this post, and spread the word about PSA, and about the Patreon aspect of this project, I would be really really grateful.

In the meantime, thanks so much to all of you who have supported this project thus far, be it in submissions, kind comments, feedback, donations or even just
 sharing.

I wish :love and spoons: to each and every one of you.

HEY EVERYONE SARAH CATE IS REALLY COOL.
