For my first drawing/warmup today, I decided to do a redline of this Sailor Moon laserdisc cover.  While it’s hard to improve on perfection, some of the anatomy in this particular image was bugging me anytime it came up in my desktop wallpaper shuffle.

Some of the wonkiness can be chalked up to stylization/the character model.  But I messed around with her face proportions re: her head, and the angle of her head compared to her body, and her belt and skirt and some other things.  I tried to stay as faithful to on-model as I could while just mooshing around proportions to my liking.

The most ANNOYING thing about the original, in my opinion is the collar point veering off down the center of her boob so as to better see the hint of cleavage.  Nothing wrong with cleavage, and even here it’s tame.  I wouldn’t even call it distasteful cleavage.  But the way her body is angled, the collar would obscure it.  The way it’s draw makes it look like the collar came detached and is hanging like this:

So yeah. Those are my thoughts. Not sure I’ll ever have time to look at this any closer/longer, but redlining is an interesting exercise.
