The new desk is actually smaller than the table I was using before, but the way I’m using space now is much better.  The shelving unit on the side is pretty great.

The other thing about the old table is that, being a kitchen table, it’s got a vertical plank of wood under the lip of the tabletop, which would dig into my legs and/or not let me get as close to the desktop as I should have been, plus my monitors were too low, so I was hunching forward a lot.  And hunching forward a lot/not having great posture in general gradually made my fingertips start going numb. ^_^;;

SO YEAH

This ergonomics stuff: not a whole bunch of hooey.

I went to Ikea for the first time today and I BOUGHT MY NEW DESK!!

My friends Adam and Cori (aka junnokoneko) took Chris and I to the Ikea in Cincinatti.  They recently moved back to the area and needed a new TV stand, so it all worked out and it was a fun adventure. :D

My new desk is the EXPEDIT workstation in fake!birch.  I also grabbed the TERTIAL lamp because it was cheap, and I’ve been wanting some task lighting for my desk for a long time, for those times when I’d like to draw on actual paper at my desk.

I’ve been using a secondhand kitchen table as a desk since sometime in 2007, which was great when I first got it, but I’m gettin’ old and creaky!  This is the (for now) final stage of making my workspace more ergonomic and comfortable to work in, since I’ve spent so much damn time here in the last several months.

YAY NEW THINGS!

While we were at Ikea, we ate lunch in the cafe. I totally did not know they had a restaurant.  I’d heard about the meatballs over the years, but never expected a whole restaurant!  TBH I don’t like meatballs that much so I had the fish and chips, and it was good. :)
