Rattmann and Chell. Fanime 2013. More can be found here.

Photos belong to me, Purple Turtle Photography on Facebook and SmugMug. Doug Rattmann and Chell characters belong to Valve. The Cosplayers belong to themselves.

These are both great, and a bunch of great shots!

It’s nice to see Portal Chell, as opposed to her Portal 2 clothes.  Portal2!Chell is a little more aesthetically pleasing to me, and I think that’s probably why most cosplays are of that version, but I can appreciate a good original.  I think the hair and makeup really make it. :)

How to Negotiate a Contract Like a Cartoonist

Want to learn how to improve your negotiation skills?

Watch other people negotiate.

“But Katie, that sounds boring! And possibly worse than suffering through the last episode of Lost.”

Perhaps. But not when Penny Arcade does it!

Strip Search, Penny Arcade‘s reality show, pits 12 cartoonists against one another to battle it out for a chance to win $15K and a year embedded at the Penny Arcade studio.

Last Friday’s challenge? Contract negotiations.

I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to use the episode to talk about the good, the bad and the ugly of negotiating contracts on your own.

Read the rest of the post on the blog!

Strip Search and Katie Lane’s contract negotiating tips— two of my favorite things, together at last!!

Every time I do a panel on freelancing, I always recommend Katie’s website, Work Made For Hire, to everyone looking to represent themselves as a self-employed person.

I’ve been reading this blog for the last three days ever since it came across my dash (thanks, Erika!) and it’s amazing.  Everyone should read it.
