Portal 2 Appreciation Meme

Happy Birthday, Portal 2!  Blank meme here.

Date of beginning and/or end of first playthrough: According to my email reciept, I bought the game on May 13, 2012, so I began my first playthrough on the 13th or 14th, and it took me maybe two days of playing after work to finish. :)

My friend was poking me to play it because Steam was having a sale, which jogged my memory that I’d gotten the first Portal for free at some point when they were giving it away on Steam, but my computer at the time was not up to snuff, so I never actually got to play it. Then last year, I got a new computer, so I played through the first game over a couple evenings, and immediately bought the second one on sale when I was done.
Favourite line:
“I can’t get over how small you are! But I’m huge! [Laugh turns into evil cackling.]  Actually… why do we have to leave right now?"  This moment, for me, was when Shit Got Real.
Favourite plot device:
The chassis turning Wheatley evil.
Favourite test chamber:
Test Chamber 10, the one where you have to take a storage cube and a redirection cube around while flying around on Faith Plates.  I like Faith Plates.
Hardest test chamber:
Test Chamber 18, the one with a single turret on a platform surrounded by goo.  It took me too long to figure out on my own, so that’s one of the chambers where I consulted a walkthrough.  On the plus side, solving the test chamber triggers one of my favorite pieces of music on the soundtrack. (I Made It All Up)
Favourite chapter:
The Escape, when Chell and Wheatley are still BFFs. <3
Least favourite part/event:
I hate the one part of Old Aperture right before you reach the hatch to go back up to Wheatley, where you have to use a bunch of different dripping gels.  Anything that involves bouncing off Repulsion Gel to fly through a portal is generally super annoying to me because of aiming issues.
Favourite place in Aperture:
Hmm, probably the Rat Man den with the radio.
A piece of fanart you really love:
You Monster, by CrazzyMutt
A piece of fanfiction you really love:
Blue Skyyyyyyyyyy
Little headcanon of yours:
Wheatley was human once, like GLaDOS was.
Favourite headcanon from another fan:
Ummmm, I can’t decide!  Everyone’s headcanons are all great.
Favourite achievement:
You Made Your Point
First/favourite co-op partner:
Haven’t played Co-op yet.
A funny story from your Portal 2 experience:
A coworker had seen me post a status about playing on Facebook, and started quoting the "When life gives you lemons…” line, but I hadn’t gotten to that part of the game yet and had no idea what he was talking about. XD
Your own message of thanks to Valve:
Thank you for making Portal 2!  Chell is on my list of top favorite characters ever, and she inspires me to never give up. Ever.

this is an actual scene from the movie

And gasp! It’s an actual scene in the BOOK too!

Still better than the actual name you gave her, you sociopathic jackass.

Not that I’m trying to defend Pedowolf, but seriously, “Renesmee?” Really? Really. REALLY?

The scene in Breaking Dawn part 1 when Bella and Edward are telling the Cullens and Jacob the baby names they decided on was equally hilarious.

Why Dove’s “Real Beauty Sketches” Video Makes Me Uncomfortable… and Kind of Makes Me Angry

jazzylittledrops:

So this video started going around my facebook today, with about a dozen of my female friends sharing the link with comments like, and “Everyone needs to see this”, and “All girls should watch this,” and “This made me cry.” And I’m not trying to shame those girls! I definitely understand why they would do so. And I don’t want to be a killjoy. But as I clicked link and started watching the video, I started to feel a slight sense of discomfort. I couldn’t put my finger on why that was, exactly, but it continued throughout the whole thing. After watching the video several more times, I have some thoughts…

I agree with a lot of this assessment. When I saw the images in the campaign, it was without context and I thought it was an example of how witness testimony is unreliable when it comes to sketch artist representations (maybe still a valid point). But when I saw later it was about how women describe themselves as “uglier” than other people see them, I couldn’t help but wonder if maybe some of these women describing themselves weren’t being harsh on themselves, but describing wrinkles they actually had and just weren’t ashamed of them while people describing them are being more polite. Seeing some of the photos of the actual women, they look more or less right in between how they described themselves and how other people described them. I wouldn’t call their self descriptions ugly, and I think to do so… just reinforces the beauty standard.

People draw me a lot. I love it. It’s lots of fun. But some people draw me thinner than I am, they take away the moles, the creases and lines of my face, the length of my nose. And some of it is just a style that simplifies things, but I know some of it is fear of offending me by drawing me with what they see as negative qualities but what I see as part of my face. It makes me sad sometimes that people think they’re going to offend me by portraying me… looking how I actually look. Never be afraid to draw every single line in my face, every single roll of fat, small boobs, occasional double chin, moley moley moley skin, all of that stuff, because it’s gorgeous to me. I don’t need Dove telling me I’m being harsh on myself when I feel more free than I’ve ever felt.

Strip Search, Season 1, Episode 14 – Game On

I was up late making comics last night, so I thought I would be awake when this episode dropped! Looks like they were going to keep us waiting a little longer than usual, so I admitted defeat and went to bed. :)

I thought the clay challenge looked like a lot of fun!  Amy’s confessions made me like her a lot more than I already did, and kind of highlight what reality TV does to the people on these kinds of game shows.  You see the same burnout and fatigue on Project Runway.

Also the AWWWWW moments between Amy’s and Erika’s talking heads was super sweet. :)

Next time: convention booth design!  I’m looking forward to that episode.
