I woke up one morning last weekend to see my laptop screen was open to the Wikipedia page for My Mad Fat Diary. I imagine some time, late the night before, I read something about the show and decided to do more investigating. In reality, I have no memory of what prompted my curiosity. I take it as a good sign. What matters most is that I have seen the show and loved the show. For WBEZ, I wrote a review and essay about the show and why it’s one of the best depictions of young womanhood and mental illness ever.

So, I read Blue Sky awhile ago and I felt bad because I love this fandom but don’t really feel confident enough to contribute.  BUT!  Then Halloween came, and I was able to dress up my husband (that’s right ladies, this guy is taken) as Blue Sky!Wheatley.  I honestly think that he looks a LOT like Smerch, though not as tall and certainly not as awkward.  I had tons of fun getting him to make different faces.  I hope that you enjoy these as much as I did!

Astronauts will use their feces as a radiation shield on 2018 mission to Mars

The Inspiration Mars Foundation’s audacious plan for a primarily private-funded, manned ship to Mars has more than a few challenges to overcome before its 2018 launch date, and it turns out the solution to one problem — dangerous cosmic rays — comes in the form of feces. The current plan calls for the two astronauts aboard the 1166-cubic-foot spacecraft to defecate into bags which would be used to line the walls of the ship (after extracting as much water as possible from the waste for reuse).a

Want to see Alex draw her super-pink crazyass crossover fan senshi and wax poetic about the Sailor Moon fandom circa 2000? Of course you do!

I wholeheartedly agree that the Sailor Moon fandom was the best place to grow up on the internet back in the day. We took refuge (HAHA JOKES) in messageboards of our OC idols and charm clubs – corners of the internet that no longer exist today. Sailor Orion, the Crystalstars, grep*, the SEC – how are you little Moonie tumblrteens gonna make it in this new era?!

Now I’m even more nostalgic for the old crew. Kairos, Hearth, Andromeda, Nemesis, Silver Dragon, Andi (what was her screen name even?) I’m forever grateful for such an amazing group to help guide me through my early adolescence and beyond. (See mom, the internet is good, okay?)

Now I’m combing my hard drive for artifacts of the time, and it’s a flipping goldmine. I need to put some of this on the site for sure, because Alex is right – I’ve been picking up and putting down and tinkering with this sillyass fanfic/comic since I was twelve. And I feel like that makes me sound like an insane person, but I figure what better way to get on the comics horse than with a story that’s meant so much to me?

Also, I should post old art as a regular feature, because this shit is hilarious. Throwback Thursdays, y/y?

Getting a little teary-eyed for the days of my internet youth. I hope whatever new levels of fandom the 2013 show spews forth will be as awesome a place as our little enclave was for us.

ALEX. I just realized we’re not so much older than Orion was then. Maybe we can shepherd a little. IT COULD BE SO CUTE
